AND the WINNERS ARE....!!! Click to see the listing of the first 40 people who returned their National Children's Dental Helath Month, State Oral Health Office Survey of School Nurse Oral Health Clinic Aactivity! The responses came so fast by fax and email that the staff were unable to determine who the first 20 respondents were, and had to find more water bottles for the first 40! Hope you were one, but if not, I hope that you know just because the water bottles ran out, our gratitude did not!
Be sure to come to Conference to see the results and learn how we plan to work together to bring down the leading cause of school absences in GA schools! Together we can do it!
HEY! While you're here, check out the FREE, ON-SITE GA School Nurse Oral Health Training Flyer below! You can schedule for now OR for next Fall!

Oral Health is the number 1 health problem among school-aged kids in Georgia. Every School Nurse across the state is well aware that dental problems – toothaches and cavities – are a constant problem among her student population, regardless of their grade level. Students miss more days of school each year because of oral health problems than any other cause. GASN is committed to removing this barrier to academic achievement!
GASN has identified oral health as our leading student health priority. According to the 2005 Georgia 3rd Grade Oral Health Survey, Georgia’s children do not meet the national Healthy People 2010 objectives for untreated dental caries, caries experience, and dental sealants; and 1 in 8 children (13%) could not obtain care in 2005 when needed. We know that number is higher now as many parents have lost their health insurance. The survey also found racial and economic disparities in access to care in Georgia.
Georgia School Nurses serve all students in their schools. We are committed to reducing the number of days of school missed by Georgia students due to oral health problems through
- Prevention education targeting students and parents;
- Increasing access to care through promotion of Medicaid and Peachcare awareness for parents;
- Provider referrals; and
- Participating in the Georgia Oral Health Council to plan and implement an effective strategy to improve oral health among school-aged Georgians.
